Brighton England What To See In Brighton

The resurgence of Brighton as a tourist center has brought renewed life to this area. With it’s recent voting as England’s trendiest city, it seems that the nickname of London on the Sea is well-deserved.
The first thing someone should see in Brighton is the Royal Pavilion. This was rebuilt during the 19th century by architect John Nash. There is a unique Indian flair to this building. There are also a number of green-lawn gardens surrounding the Pavilion. Despite the Indian-style onion domes on the outside, the inside looks to have more of a Chinese influence. It is quite a sight and well worth the admission fee (about 8-9 GBP), however, no flash photography is allowed inside. This is also a very popular setting for weddings, and many couples come here just for that purpose.
Also visit the Brighton Pier. This is a bit like Coney Island in the States, but more chic. There are several bars and lots of food stalls along the pier. There is even an amusement park with all kinds of rides and things to do. This would be great fun for kids as well as adults. Prices can be a bit high here, so if you are on a budget, just be careful! If you want to sample everything, the most economical way is to buy a pass (it is still around 20 GBP per person, not sure what the child price is). There are plenty of photo opportunities here as well, looking out to sea.
The Volks Railway is a great time for everyone. It is possibly Great Britain’s oldest electric railway. The price is reasonable also (2-3 GBP). The ride is about 1.5 miles long, running from the Brighton Palace Pier to the Marina.
The Lanes is the shopping district of Brighton. It is a relatively small area, however, you can find almost anything here! It is an area encompassed by 3-4 roads, and most of the items for sale could be classified as quirky or quaint or eclectic. There are also some good places to eat in this area. Many people I have spoken with say this is there favorite place in the world to shop!
Brighton Beach is also highly recommended and rated by travelers. It is a nice place to walk along and watch the beautiful sunsets. It is not far from the Lanes and several places to eat as well. There are also many seagulls that you can watch. Be warned, though, it is a pebble beach (not sand)! Still a nice walk.
St. Anne’s Well Garden and Cafe is a beautiful place with a great cafe and staff. In fact it has won England’s Green Flag Award, which is given to the best parks and green spaces across the country. Simply a great place to visit, look around and eat. Not to be missed.
There is so much to see and do in Brighton and Hove that it is impossible to give more than a taste here. Please, visit this area. It is highly recommended.

New Forest England Travel Ideas

The New Forest, one of England’s most ancient and beautiful places, in addition to being a protected National Park, has many wonderful attractions and places to visit.
For starters, look into a visit to Lyndhurst, in the heart of the New Forest. In addition to being the place where the main tourist center is located, there are also many places to stay, eat and visit. Most tourists actually use Lyndhurst as their base from which to explore the rest of the park. Visit the New Forest Museum, where you can learn all about the history of the area. If you would like to see a traditional game of cricket, then visit Swan Green. Or perhaps you are a literary fan? Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s burial place lies in the nearby town of Minstead. Some of the better places to eat include Imperial China, The Traditional Tea House, and Mad Hatter Tea Rooms. As for hotels, some suggestions would be: Lyndhurst Park Hotel, Bell Inn Hotel and Knightwood Lodge.
There are also a number of things to do on day trips from the New Forest. These include visiting Southampton, which is a great place to shop, visit museums, enjoy the architecture. Other day trip possibilities include Winchester and the Marwell Zoo, which is set in the open countryside with leopards, tigers, hippos and more.
Ringwood and Burley are incredibly charming little towns in the New Forest. There are lots of tea rooms and souvenir shops. On the border of Ringwood visit the Blashford Lakes, home of a large number of wildfowl. If you are a beach lover, you cannot miss the Lymington area. In fact, it is said that the area between Lymington and Poole has the best beaches in all of England. And Lymington itself is English charm personified. The town is filled with lovely Georgian homes and has an excellent museum and visitor’s center where you can learn about the history of the region. Don’t forget to see Fisherman’s Quay, the Lymington and Keyhaven Nature Reserves and Braxton Gardens. There are also tons of hotel and B & B choices here: Efford Cottage, Durlston House and Solent Heights, just to name a few.
There are so many other attractions to look forward to in the New Forest. Some other ideas, which I may expand upon in a future article are: the Bournemouth Oceanarium, Breamore Manor House, Hurst Castle and Ferry, Liberty Raptor and Reptile Park, New Forest Water Park and Setley Ridge Vineyard.

Rodents, such as rats and mice, are a major pest because of the disease they transmit and the damage they cause.

Brown Rat (Rattus Norvegicus)
This is the most abundant of the three common rodent pests in the UK, and can be found anywhere offering food, water and shelter. It is the species found breeding in rivers, fields, buildings and sewers. They like to feed under cover. A rapid breeder with 3-6 litters per year of a litter size of 8, they are sexually mature at 10-12 weeks. Signs of activity include well marked travelling routes, gnawing marks and greasy smears left on walls, pipes and around floor joists, against which they habitually brush. They are neophobic and therefore cautious with new objects and food sources.
Black Rat (Rattus Rattus)
This rat is now rare in this country and most commonly confined to shipping ports and coastal areas. Also known as the ship rat, it is historically infamous as the carrier of the plague flea. Smaller and more agile than the Brown rat, it is equally omnivorous with a preference for fruit and spices.
House Mouse (Mus Domesticus)
Living mainly indoors, mice are difficult to exclude as they squeeze through gaps as small as 7mm. Omnivorous feeders but preferring cereals and nuts, water is not vital as they derive moisture from the food they consume.
They tend to feed by taking small, multiple amounts and quickly loose interest in one food source. Pillars of dirt, grease and urine are sometimes found along habitually used runways. Mice urinate constantly and defecate around 80 times a day, rats 40 times. With a litter size of 4-11 they litter 7-8 times a year. A pair of mice and their offspring can produce about 2000 individuals in a year.

Nothing makes a road trip creep along more than having a car full of bored children. If you heard “Are we there yet?” a few too many times on your last trip, here are some ideas for fun travel games.
1. The License Plate Game. This classic will have your children busy looking at cars and learning a little about geography at the same time. Before you head out on your trip, print out a list of all 50 states and give a copy to each of your kids. You can have them compete individually to get the most states, or better yet, work together as a team for a family record. You can give out a new sheet for each leg of the trip or tally up the total license plates for the entire trip.
2. Joke Bowl. Have a “Joke Bowl” on the way to your destination. Before you get started, let your family know that they each need to collect at least ten jokes for the trip. Have one person start out the joke bowl as soon as you see the first green highway sign, and then go in a clockwise direction. The whole group votes on a winner and then that person gets to start out the next time you see a green highway sign. The person who wins the most rounds gets a special prize.
3. Wipe Clean Games. Make your own “wipe clean” games by laminating mazes and word games from activity books. You can even create your own or print them from online. Give your children dry erase markers or overhead projector pens. They can reuse the pages again and again throughout the car trip.
4. Counting Cows. This game is simple to understand but also very challenging. Divide your family into two teams, based on the two different sides of the car. Count all the cows you see along the way. If you pass by a crowded field, you’ll need to count really fast! Each person keeps track of their own cow count, and you lose your cows if a cemetery passes by your side of the car and someone else says “All your cows are buried!”
5. Make your own Mad Libs. Before you head out on the road, collect a few short stories and remove some of the words and write down what part of speech those words are. While you’re traveling, have your kids call out suggestions and then read back your silly stories.
6. Read a book. Reading a book out loud can make a car trip go a lot faster for the people who are listening. Take along a few short chapter books to read to your children. If your stomach can’t handle reading in the car, rent or download a few audiobooks to listen to as a family.

The building is a former Benedictine Monastery which also served as the palace of the Archbishop.
The Old City Walls are also a popular attraction. With a circumference of three miles, these walls show visitors how a city was protected just a few centuries ago.
The island is divided by the Green Line. In the North, visitors find the Turkish experience, while the south is dominated by Greek culture. This causes a fascinating mix of the two near the line.
Cypriot cuisine is a blend of Greek and Turkish cuisine, with a healthy sprinkling of French, Italian and Lebanese cuisine, as well. Seafood is obviously popular, with calamari and sea bass being staples. Potatoes, beets and cauliflower are regularly eaten with meals, using olive oil or pickling as a preparation method.
Cyprus is always a great place for young partygoers. Relax and enjoy the beaches during the day. At night, visit one of the many open-air clubs. Sip a great cocktail while listening to the waves of the sea hit the shore. There are clubs with live music as well as clubs featuring dancing and DJs.
